Healthcare Wayfinding – Large U.S. Health System
A large U.S. health system needed a modern wayfinding solution for its multi-tower hospital campuses. Patients often got lost, leading to delayed appointments and frequent staff interruptions. The organization partnered with Genium to use the GeniAI Platform for a scalable, mobile-first navigation system designed to simplify patient journeys and reduce operational strain.
The hospital's main campus was massive, with multiple towers connected by hallways and shared floors. Units often moved or changed names, which made printed or static maps outdated almost immediately. Previous options like kiosks or beacon-tracking systems were costly, hard to maintain, and difficult to roll out across the facility. The health system needed a more affordable, easy-to-use solution that worked directly on patients' phones and could eventually connect with Epic MyChart to guide them from parking to their appointment.
The GeniAI Platform was used to build a hospital wayfinding system powered by QR codes and mobile devices. Patients scan a code to access an interactive map, find routes to departments or doctors' offices, and even prepare for their visit in advance via the hospital website. The platform supports configurable routes (stairs vs. elevators), restricted staff-only areas, and real-time updates through an admin console. Hosted securely in the cloud and aligned with HIPAA standards, the system is easy to maintain and scale across facilities, with a roadmap for Epic MyChart integration to provide personalized, appointment-based navigation.
